A Falklands potter in London

I make domestic and decorative ceramics in stoneware, mainly using the wheel but also hand-building.

Sometimes themes of colour and texture emerge, unbidden, that remind me of the wild shores and rocky moors of the Falkland Islands, the land of penguins, where I was born and raised.

This may explain why I am influenced by the 20th Century nexus of Japanese, Korean, and British ceramic traditions, a style, almost a philosophy, that is best represented by Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada. They were two humble men who created simple yet dynamic work reflecting pottery’s deep connection to nature.

The pots you can see on this website are all for sale. If you would like to have my work in your home, please contact me. The pieces on the ‘for sale’ page have price tags, but many of the other pieces shown here and on my Instagram channel are also for sale. If you see a pot you would like to have in your home, please contact me. I’d love to hear from you – whether you want to buy my work or not.

The pot is the man.

His vices and his values are therein. No disguise is possible

Welcome to my ceramics showcase

My next show

My next show will be at Falkland House in Westminster in June this year. More details to follow but if you would like to attend the opening event, please contact me.

Finally, here I am making a bowl for the next show. I am talking about the technique of ‘turning’. The ‘leather-hard’ pot goes back on the wheel, but this time upside-down.
